Due to the entire set of measures, in recent years, forest regeneration has consistently exceeded the rate of loss. By the end of 2025, reforestation was one and a half times greater than the area of felled and dead trees.
During the spring forest cultivation season of 2026, approximately 255 thousand hectares of forests were restored. The leaders in this direction were Zabaykalsky Krai, Irkutsk, and Vologda regions. In addition, the collection of forest seeds continues, including those with improved properties. A significant contribution to the formation of the seed fund was made by the Kirov, Lipetsk, and Irkutsk regions.
The main part of the restoration work will be carried out in the autumn season, when the most favorable conditions for planting forest crops and the survival of planting material are established.
Active work is underway to care for the planted forest crops. Over seven years, such activity has covered more than five million hectares. Nearly 800 thousand hectares are planned to be treated this year.
In addition, since the beginning of the year, about 300 units of forest firefighting, forest management equipment, and specialized machinery have been delivered to the regions.
“Forest conservation is an important element for ensuring environmental well-being. Increasing the technical equipment of the regions, the systematic restoration of forest areas, and the development of the seed base allow us to consistently address this task. By 2026, it is planned to restore at least 1.3 million hectares of forested areas in Russia. Of course, this will contribute to strengthening the ecological balance,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev.
It is worth adding that a significant contribution to the restoration of our country’s forest area is made by caring citizens. The campaigns “Memory Garden” and “Let’s Preserve the Forest” unite people in the cause of conserving and increasing Russian forests.
The goal of the International campaign “Memory Garden” is to plant 27 million trees in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. In 2026, more than 30 million trees were planted as part of this campaign, and over six years, about 240 million trees have been planted. Participants in the All-Russian campaign “Save the Forest” annually plant at least 70 million trees, and over seven years of its implementation, this amounts to more than 430 million trees. The new season of the 2026 campaign started on August 21 in the city of Naryan-Mar, Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Every year, about 1.5 million people across Russia, as well as in several foreign countries, join tree planting events.
