On the eve of the new academic year, Russia’s construction complex continues to strengthen the country’s educational infrastructure. New schools and universities are being prepared for opening ahead of September 1. This includes the ongoing construction of the campus based on the National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (NIU MGSU). The erection of the structure of the overhead passage connecting the under-construction blocks “A” and “B” has been completed, said Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees Marat Khusnullin.
“By the order of the President, a network of modern university campuses of a world-class level is being created in the country. Thus, a full-fledged scientific and educational environment will emerge, in which students will be comfortable studying, engaging in science, and acquiring practical skills. Such a project is being implemented, among other places, on the basis of the flagship industry university – the National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering. This is an important step in the development of domestic construction education and the high-quality training of highly qualified industry specialists. Active construction work continues. As of today, specialists have connected two building corps under construction with an above-ground passage. Also, at the moment, the installation of passages to the existing buildings is nearing completion. This will ensure convenient movement of students and staff of the university and will allow unification of the university buildings,” said Marat Khusnullin.
Block “B” of the educational and scientific cluster, with an area of about 33 thousand square meters, is being built under the supervision of the company “Unified Customer in the Field of Construction.” It will house advanced scientific spaces (Institute of Scientific and Technical Support for Construction, Research Institute of Design, Center for Additive Technologies (3D Printing) Research in Construction, Center for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Research, Center for Construction Materials Science Problems Research, Robotics and Automation Center in Construction and Housing and Communal Services) and educational spaces (“Road Construction,” “Innovative Engineering Systems for Buildings and Structures,” “Innovative Construction Equipment,” “Robotics in Construction”). In addition, there will be rooms for independent and project work and a conference hall with 175 seats.
“When creating the campus, we consistently form a unified infrastructure in which all elements work as a single system. The above-ground passageway between the two blocks is a clear example of this approach. This will enable the formation of more convenient navigation around the campus and reduce the time spent moving between classrooms without the need to leave the building,” noted Karen Oganesyan, CEO of EPC “Unified Customer.”
Today, about 50 members of the student construction team are working on the campus site in the buildings of blocks “A” and “B.” For future builders and engineers, this is a unique opportunity to see the entire cycle of implementing a complex infrastructure project and to gain practical skills under the guidance of experienced specialists.
“Undoubtedly, the completion of the overhead pedestrian crossing is an important milestone in the construction of the campus. Blocks “A” and “B” of the educational and scientific cluster, with a total area of over 70,000 square meters, are now connected to each other. At the same time, facade, engineering, and finishing works continue inside the buildings. The construction of blocks “A” and “B” is scheduled to be completed by September 1, 2027,” noted NIU MGSU Rector Pavel Akimov.
Another four campuses are being constructed by the specialists of the EPC contractor “Unified Customer in the Field of Construction” in Orel, Novosibirsk, Smolensk, and Kaliningrad.
