On September 5, the capital will once again host a large-scale sporting event — the “Walking Day” festival. It is organized within the framework of the project “Summer in Moscow”. Participants will follow a scenic three-kilometer route from the Rostov Embankment to the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Last year, the number of participants in this event exceeded 20 thousand people.
The festival partner is the project “Moscow Longevity“. Its participants have long become ambassadors of Nordic walking in the capital. They plan to gather one of the largest teams at the event.
“Sports is one of the three main directions of the project, along with creativity and education. Regular activities, such as Nordic walking, not only strengthen health but also provide a great mood, help find like-minded people, and make life more fulfilling. Participants of ‘Moscow Longevity’ have been the main enthusiasts of Nordic walking in the capital for more than eight years. This is a vivid testimony that Moscow is a city where a healthy lifestyle is accessible at any age. Today, about 600 groups are open in this direction within the project, and all activities are conducted under the guidance of professional trainers,” noted the Deputy Head of the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
Nordic walking has been one of the three most popular activities of the project for many years. Instructors note that walking with poles engages about 90 percent of the muscles and is one of the safest types of activity, which has virtually no age restrictions.
On this day, amateur athletes aged from 55 to over 90 will take the stage from the “Moscow Longevity” team. Participants will be greeted by the event hosts and celebrity guests. Among them are theater and film actress Ekaterina Strizhenova, athlete Maria Pytina, actress Alla Mikheeva, two-time Olympic champion on the uneven bars Svetlana Khorkina, Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova, as well as host Mikhail Guberniev.
How to become a participant
To participate in the event, it is necessary pre-registration. On August 27, additional registration will open on the website.
On the day of the event, September 5, from 09:00 to 11:30 at the meeting point (Rostov embankment), participants will need to re-register. Everyone who has registered will be able to receive a starter kit, prepared jointly with the project partner — the “Salvisar” brand of the biopharmaceutical company “Promomed.” It includes Nordic walking poles, a T-shirt, a Panama hat, and a water bottle.
The organizer of Walk Day is Department of Sports of the City of Moscow.
