At the fifth festival “Flavors of Russia” Over two million people visited VDNH — a quarter more than the previous year. This was reported by Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow. From August 13 to 23, citizens and tourists explored the gastronomic diversity of our country, tasted and purchased farm products, and tried their hand at cooking national dishes themselves.

“More than 400 producers from different parts of Russia — from Crimea to Kamchatka — joined the festival. Everyone interested was invited to participate in culinary, creative, and craft workshops. Over 11 days, about 500 sessions were held, attended by nearly 32,000 people,” said Natalia Sergunina.

The event was organized as part of the project “Summer in Moscow”.

The gastronomic map of the country

The food court served dishes from across the country. Chefs from Siberia and the Far East prepared omul sugudai, Kamchatka scallops, as well as a Magadan pie with sockeye salmon. The Urals and the Volga region presented Udmurt perepechi, tabani, and Bashkir baursaks.

The southern regions offered Balkar and Ossetian pies, Dagestani chudu, juicy lamb kebabs, and skate wing. Chefs from the central part of Russia introduced guests to Tambov potatoes with ham, Bryansk borscht with rib meat, and Kostroma burgers with Kologriv goose. Visitors purchased more than 76 thousand servings of dishes and snacks.

At the fair, one could find traditional baked goods, dozens of types of cheese and seafood, meat delicacies, and much more. Here, Vologda butter stood alongside Kolomna kalachi, Vyborg pretzels and Tula gingerbread, Adyghe cheese and Surgut bread, Astrakhan vobla and Karelian vendace, Baikal smolka and Ural dandelion jam. The total volume of products sold exceeded 95 tons.

At the master classes, guests painted wooden matryoshkas and dishes with bright regional ornaments and patterns, made caramel lollipops, and learned the technique of weaving Mikhailovskoye lace. Culinary enthusiasts were shown how to prepare Far Eastern funchoza with chicken, Krasnodar stuffed cutlets, Adyghe meat patties, and other dishes.

As part of the music program, groups and ensembles from Karelia, North Ossetia, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Udmurtia, Mordovia, and other regions of Russia performed before the visitors.

The organizers of the festival are the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation together with the Government of Moscow.

Project “Summer in Moscow” has already become a good tradition and an integral part of the city’s life. The main theme of this year is “Time to be together,” and the goal of all events is to unite and bring closer the residents of the capital.

A large-scale feature has appeared on the portal mos.ru special project, dedicated to the development of key areas of Moscow. These include transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction. The special project helps to learn how the capital has changed over the past years, what initiatives aimed at making residents’ lives even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its inhabitants in the near future.

On the project page “Culture, Heritage and Leisure Industry” You can learn about how architectural monuments are preserved in the capital.
