A new theatrical season is beginning in Moscow. About 20 theaters have opened their doors to the audience. By the end of August, two more theaters will start their season, in September 35 more will join them, and in October — two.
Concert organizations have also opened their season. The first events have already taken place: on August 1, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra performed, and on August 23, the Moscow State Academic Chamber Choir. By October 1, all creative teams will return from summer vacation, and concert halls will once again open their doors to spectators.
“In the new season, concert venues plan to hold about 1,800 performances, and theaters are preparing approximately 300 new productions. Among them are children’s and military-patriotic plays, symphonic and chamber concerts, operas, ballets, as well as choral, ethnic, and jazz programs. Just in the first half of August, around 58,000 tickets for theaters and about five thousand tickets for concerts of the new season have already been sold,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
Russian classics and performances for children
One of the main events of the season will be the anniversary of the Lenkom Theatre of Mark Zakharov, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. A grand celebration is planned for June 3, 2027.
The new season of the theater will open with a celebration of the birthday of the outstanding actor, People’s Artist of the USSR Yevgeny Leonov, which will take place on September 2. To mark this date, the Mark Zakharov Lenkom Theater will show the premiere of the play on September 9 and 10. “Eldest Son, or Letters to a Son”. The leading role in the production will be performed by People’s Artist of Russia Andrey Leonov, the son of Yevgeny Leonov.
For the anniversary season, a new exhibition dedicated to the history of the troupe has been set up in the theater lobby. Jazz concerts, folk and pop shows
Events at city concert venues and performances by creative groups will attract about 2.5 million spectators. One of the main venues will be the Zaryadye Hall, where more than 500 events are planned. The program includes symphonic and chamber concerts, opera and ballet productions, choral, ethnic, and jazz programs, as well as performances for young audiences. Spectators will see performances by Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, Denis Matsuev, Nikolai Lugansky, Ildar Abdrazakov, Christoph Barat, Simon Trpceski, Vadim Repin, Albina Shagimuratova, Boris Berezovsky, and other stars. Artists from the USA, Cuba, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, China, South Korea, Japan, and other countries will participate in the projects.
“The ninth season will open with a grand cycle dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich. The Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev will perform all of the composer’s symphonies throughout September and October, and the cycle itself will continue until December and conclude as part of the fifth ‘Zaryadye’ Winter Festival. In the ninth season, over 500 events will take place featuring leading ensembles and outstanding Russian and foreign artists. Our main task is to present to listeners the full diversity of genres—from Baroque to contemporary music,” noted Ivan Rudin, General Director of Moscow’s Zaryadye Concert Hall.
For the 120th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich’s birth, the Zaryadye Hall has prepared a special program: a cycle of more than 20 concerts covering all symphonies, instrumental concertos including quartets, preludes and fugues for piano, as well as other significant works.
The cycle will be opened by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the direction of People’s Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev. On the composer’s birthday, September 25, pianist Yuri Favorin and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ivan Rudin will perform the First Piano Concerto with orchestra. For viewers who cannot attend the performances in person, an online broadcast will be available in the media project “Recorded at ‘Zaryadye'”.
On September 24, Maestro Vladimir Spivakov will open the new concert season at the Moscow International House of Music together with By the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia. About 770 events are planned for the season. The program includes classical and jazz concerts, educational projects, theatrical performances, folk and pop shows, meetings with famous theater and film actors, and performances by leading dance groups of the country. Participants of the season include Alisa Freindlich, Hibla Gerzmava, Denis Matsuev, Fedor and Viktor Dobronravov, Maxim Dunaevsky.
After several years of hiatus, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia named after E.F. Svetlanov will perform again in the Svetlanov Hall. Under the direction of Philipp Chizhevsky, the musicians will perform all the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven. In addition, throughout the season, young pianists, laureates of the Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition, will perform on the stage of the House of Music.
In the new season, legendary folk ensembles of Russia will perform on the stage of the House of Music: the Kuban Cossack Choir, the State Academic Russian Folk Choir named after M.E. Pyatnitsky, the State Academic Order of Friendship of Peoples Song and Dance Ensemble of the Don Cossacks named after Anatoly Kvasov, the Orenburg State Academic Russian Folk Choir, as well as the ensembles “Kabardinka” and “Nokhcho.” Traditionally, the poster will include concerts of the best choral groups within the framework of the Moscow Christmas Festival of Sacred Music. A bright premiere will be the first performance of the choir of the Chersonesus Monastery in the Svetlanov Hall.
For young viewers and their parents, the House of Music has prepared an exciting program. The children’s schedule features concerts with sand animation, interactive projects, ballet performances, and circus shows.
On October 10, the premiere of the fantasy musical will take place in the theater hall “Monster Factory”. On November 14, the actors of the «MirLits» theater will present a unique show “Cloud Clowns”. The production is created in the best traditions of theatrical clowning and is considered one of the best circus performances in the world.
In December, the anniversary fifth winter festival “Zaryadye” will take place. The program includes more than 30 concerts and opera performances. World-class stars will take the stage.
Participants of the special military operation and their families can attend cultural events in Moscow on preferential terms. These apply to performances at the Zaryadye Hall, the Moscow International House of Music, the Bolshoi Moscow Circus on Vernadsky Avenue, as well as to the shows of the “Circus Divertissements” project in Sokolniki Park and to events organized by Mosconcert.
In the new season, a large-scale program to modernize theater venues will continue in Moscow. Repair work is underway on the main stage of the Oleg Tabakov Theater, which will be completed in 2027. The project includes increasing the number of rehearsal halls and dressing rooms, arranging a theater library, as well as creating a separate block for the Oleg Tabakov Moscow Theater School. By the end of the year, the current repairs at the Theater on Malaya Ordynka will be completed: the auditoriums, buffets, foyers will be updated, and engineering and technical communications will be replaced.
