Beijing, August 25 /Xinhua/ — The number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure facilities in China has continued to grow rapidly; by the end of July 2026, the total number of such charging units reached 23.68 million, which is 41.9 percent more compared to the same period last year. This is evidenced by data published on Monday by the National Energy Administration of China.
Among the aforementioned devices are 5.099 million public facilities, which is 21.3 percent more year-over-year.
In addition, the number of private charging stations by the end of last month reached 18.58 million units, increasing by 48.8 percent year-on-year.
These data, obtained from the national platform for monitoring and servicing charging infrastructure, highlight the ongoing expansion of the electric vehicle support network in China amid a sharp increase in sales of such vehicles.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, released earlier this month, in July 2026 the share of new energy vehicles (NEV) sales from the total new car sales in the country exceeded 60 percent for the first time.
Data also showed that in July alone, the production and sales volumes of new energy vehicles in China amounted to more than 1.57 million and 1.56 million units respectively, which is 26.8% and 23.7% higher than a year earlier.
In October 2025, China announced a three-year action plan to improve the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country, aimed at creating a nationwide network of 28 million charging devices with a total capacity of over 300 million kW by the end of 2027.
In accordance with the action plan to reach peak carbon emissions during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), China aims to increase the share of NEVs in the country’s vehicle fleet to 30 percent by the end of 2030. -0-
