A new educational complex with dormitories of the Moscow State Technological University (MSTU) “STANKIN” will appear in Kommunarka. The construction was launched by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin. They also inspected the construction of the main competence center for the machine tool industry in Kommunarka.

“The technological independence of our country is impossible without the development of machine tool building. Unfortunately, this industry has not developed very well in recent decades. But by the President’s order, a new machine tool building center is being created here in Kommunarka, consisting of three facilities. This is a competency center that is being constructed and will be commissioned next year. This is the new university campus of ‘STANKIN,’ which we are laying today. Here, in the campus, there is everything for science, study, sports, relaxation, and student accommodation,” said Sergey Sobyanin.

Moscow is the largest educational center in Russia.

“Most full-time students come to the capital from other Russian regions. Therefore, we actively participate in implementing the directive of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to create a network of modern university campuses by 2036. Such a campus has already been opened at Bauman MSTU, and next in line are the complexes of ‘STANKIN’ and MGSU,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow on his channel in in the “Max” messenger.

New campus of MSTU “STANKIN”

The construction project of the new educational complex (campus) of the STANKIN university includes the erection of seven buildings with a total area of 120 thousand square meters, connected by a stylobate.

Modern digital technologies are used in the design; in particular, a digital information model of the internal engineering systems has been developed, and a digital information model of the entire complex is being created.

According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Moscow is creating a unique facility in a promising location. An ecosystem will be formed there to enable learning, working, conducting scientific research, and developing production. All this will be aimed at achieving the national development goals of the country.

“Today is an important day — we are launching the start of construction of a scientific and educational center, which will be part of the ecosystem campus complex being created here at ‘STANKIN.’ ‘STANKIN’ is one of the leading engineering universities in our country. And the tasks set for us now by the President, technological leadership, require a multiple increase in efforts for creating technologies and training personnel,” noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The first building will become the heart of the educational complex, while the others will be separate centers of competence, each with its own set of departments and research areas. At the same time, the buildings will be designed so that navigating the campus is intuitive. Wide corridors, convenient passages, spacious lobbies, and amphitheaters will help students quickly get to the desired location.

The educational section of the complex will include spacious lecture and seminar rooms, computer labs, as well as a techno-hub — spaces for student activities, including a VR arena, electronics and virtual reality laboratories, and project labs. Thanks to this, students will be able to immediately apply the knowledge they have gained in practice and learn to work with modern equipment.

The campus will host several major departments of MSTU “STANKIN”: the Institute of Information Technology, the Institute of Production Technologies and Engineering, the Institute of Social-Technological Management, the Institute of Digital Intelligent Systems, the Intersectoral Institute for the Development of Innovative Technologies, as well as the advanced engineering school “Technological Base of Mechanical Engineering”.

In addition, there are rooms provided for specialized laboratories, including a laboratory for artificial intelligence and machine vision, spark plasma sintering, materials properties research, as well as a laboratory for intelligent control systems of production facilities, among others.

“The decision is unprecedented. This is a completely new place, and the entire infrastructure is not only for education, but also, considering the specifics of this university, for engaging in engineering. There is a special competence center that is practically built. As well as a dormitory for students, a sports center. And, actually, the buildings themselves where the education will take place. The project is being implemented with unprecedented support from the Government of the city of Moscow and is expected to be completed very soon,” emphasized the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Valery Falkov.

For scientific work and conferences, the campus will be equipped with a congress center, exhibition spaces, conference rooms, and rooms for thesis defenses, as well as a library with reading rooms, coworking spaces, and rooms for collaborative work.

Student initiatives will be supported through a startup studio, where ideas will be helped to turn into real projects.

Premises will also be provided for the “Stankograd” center for career guidance and additional education for schoolchildren.

In the new campus, a machine tool museum and a cultural and leisure center with shooting studios, a recording studio, and rehearsal rooms will also open. A large auditorium with 1,200 seats and a stage will be able to host major events—from concerts to scientific forums.

In addition, the stylobate roof will be transformed into a green public space with several functional zones: a central area for socializing, places for relaxation, and outdoor study spaces with tables and lighting. This solution will allow the roof to be used as a full-fledged part of the educational environment, where people can study and spend time between classes.

“The project includes the construction of seven buildings, connected by a stylobate. The complex will feature spacious lecture halls, specialized laboratories, conference rooms, and much more. We plan to complete construction in 2029,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow on his channel in in the messenger “Max”.

Head Center of Competence for the Machine Tool Industry

The construction of the main competence center for the machine-tool industry is being carried out under the instruction of the Chairman of the Government of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, who decided to base it at the “STANKIN” university. The customer for the construction is Government of Moscow. The creation of the main center is part of the federal project “Development of the Machine-Tool Industry,” which is included in the national project “Means of Production and Automation.”

The main competence center for the machine-tool industry is designed to ensure Russia’s technological sovereignty in the field of machine tool construction, including establishing a complete production cycle of equipment for the industry, implementing advanced technologies, and training qualified personnel.

The new center will house research and production laboratories, a design bureau equipped with the most modern equipment, a pilot production facility, and a testing center for metal-cutting tools. Specialists, including teachers, scientists, and students of MSTU “STANKIN,” will be able to develop prototypes of various purpose machine tools.

The main competence center will consist of two buildings — production and administrative-residential — with a total area of over 18,500 square meters.

The building facades will be finished in graphite, gray-white, and red colors. The architectural concept is based on the principle of a hinged connection—one of the key elements in the theory of machines and mechanisms. This motif will be embodied in window openings resembling portholes with arched frames, which will create the distinctive appearance of the facades. The rounded shapes of the buildings will echo the geometry of the windows.

The adjacent area will undergo comprehensive landscaping — an outdoor lighting system will be installed and a lawn will be laid.

A high-speed industrial construction system is used in the erection of the facility, which allows for a significant reduction in construction time, a twofold decrease in labor costs per square meter, and ensures a design service life of the building of up to 100 years.

The technology is based on the use of precast reinforced concrete products manufactured on robotic equipment. In total, more than two thousand such products will be used in the building structures, including columns, roof and floor slabs, beams, piles, and foundation cups of domestic production.

Currently, the installation of prefabricated reinforced concrete structures of the production building is underway, as well as work on the construction of the external walls of the administrative and utility building.

Completion of the construction work is planned for 2027.

Federal university infrastructure development projects within the national project “Youth and Children”

By order of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, since 2019 Government of Moscow has been implementing three projects for the construction of new complexes (campuses) of leading federal universities.

In 2024, the construction of the new educational complex of Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) was completed — the first facility in the country built under the federal project “Creation of a network of modern campuses,” which is being implemented as part of the national project “Science and Universities” (from 2025, the implementation of the project continues within the framework of the national project “Youth and Children”).

Within the framework of the project, 14 buildings with a total area of about 170 thousand square meters have been constructed and restored. In addition, the landscaping of blocks in the area of the N.E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University and a comprehensive renovation of the historic Metallurg stadium on the Yauza have been carried out.

Currently, the project to create a scientific and educational cluster of the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering is ongoing — the construction of blocks A and B.

The third project is the construction of a new educational complex (campus) of the Moscow State Technological University “STANKIN”, which began in August 2026.
