Fuzhou, August 24 /Xinhua/ — The 20th typhoon this year, “Gaenari,” struck the coast of Fujian Province in eastern China on Monday, the provincial meteorological service reported.
The typhoon hit the Zhangban settlement in Quanzhou city, Fujian Province, at around 12:30. Earlier, at 11:00, it intensified from a tropical depression to a tropical storm. At the moment of landfall, the maximum wind speed near its epicenter was 18 m/s.
After making landfall, “Gaenari” is expected to gradually weaken while continuing to move northwest. -0-
