Shenyang, August 24 /Xinhua/ — By Monday morning, 12,700 people had been evacuated in Liaoning Province /Northeast China/ due to heavy rains that hit the region starting Sunday morning, according to provincial authorities.
Heavy rains, with localized downpours, hit the southeast of Liaoning from 8 a.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Monday. At the same time, less intense precipitation fell in the northern and western parts of the province, but heavy downpours also occurred in places there.
“Red” warnings remain in effect in several districts of Liaoning. As of 06:00 on August 24, an emergency response mechanism was activated in 9 cities due to flood threats, according to the provincial flood and drought control headquarters.
By order of the provincial emergency management department, 3,611 rescue teams have been formed in eight cities, including Dalian, Anshan, and Dandong – totaling more than 127,000 people ready to provide necessary assistance in case of floods.
