More than 3.5 billion rubles will be allocated to support development projects for special economic zones (SEZs) and single-industry municipalities (monotowns). This order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The allocated funds will be used to continue the program of providing preferential loans and bank guarantees to small and medium-sized businesses in single-industry towns and special economic zones.

“This decision will help improve the economy in such localities, support the citizens living there, and create new industries and services,” noted Mikhail Mishustin at at the meeting with the deputy prime ministers on August 24.

The Head of Government recalled that over 12 years, more than 30 billion rubles have been allocated from the budget to support such cities, private investments have exceeded a quarter of a trillion rubles, and about 45 thousand jobs have been created.

Monotowns in Russia have a special status. Special support measures are in place for investors there. The infrastructure necessary for the implementation of their projects, including within the framework of concession agreements, is created at the state’s expense.

Special economic zones are created for the development of manufacturing industries, high-tech sectors of the economy, tourism, and port infrastructure. Being located in an SEZ gives businesses a number of advantages, including tax benefits, customs preferences, and reduced rental payments.
