On the eve of Cosmonautics Day and the 65th anniversary of the first human flight into space, a special significance is acquired by the preservation of historical memory and respect for the feat of the first cosmonaut of the planet. “Glavgosexpertiza of Russia” has issued a positive conclusion for the construction of the second phase facilities on the territory of the Park of Conquerors of Space named after Y.A. Gagarin in the Saratov region. This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin.
“The improvement of settlements holds great significance for enhancing people’s quality of life and creating a comfortable environment. It is especially important that the residents themselves actively participate in this work. Among them is an excellent tradition — community work days, for which people increasingly come together with the arrival of spring to tidy up courtyards, parks, and squares. Overall, the creation of modern public spaces is currently underway throughout the country, making cities and towns attractive for living, working, and recreation. One example is the Space Conquerors Park in the Saratov region, located not far from Yuri Gagarin’s landing site.”The first stage of the park’s creation was completed by the 60th anniversary of the legendary flight on April 12, 2021. Now, “Glavgosexpertiza” has approved the project for the second phase. On an area of more than 286 thousand square meters, a new museum-exhibition and recreational space will appear, which will become a worthy monument to the space era and a point of attraction for residents from across the country,” said Marat Khusnullin.
Within the framework of the second phase on the territory of the Park of Space Conquerors, a multifunctional center “Mir”, Pavilion “Vostok-1”, and a number of thematic structures dedicated to the history of astronautics and the future exploration of space will be built. About 30,000 sq. m will be allocated for landscaping.
“The building of the pavilion ‘Vostok-1’ will be two-story. Zones for master classes will also be equipped here, and ‘Roscosmos’ simulators will be installed. In addition, pedestrian zones will appear here, outdoor lighting will be installed, a video surveillance system for ensuring the safe and comfortable stay of visitors on the park territory,” emphasized Karen Oganesyan, General Director of PPP ‘Unified Customer’.
The memorial complex is located near Gagarin Field in the Engels district, 3 km from the village of Ternovskoye. It was there on April 12, 1961, that the landing module of the Vostok spacecraft, carrying the first cosmonaut of the planet, landed. The initiative to create the Park of Space Conquerors was made by the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, and the idea was supported by President Vladimir Putin.
