Specialists urban infrastructure complex the rehabilitation of the Upper and Lower Kuzminsky ponds in the southeast of the capital was carried out. The total area of the water bodies is more than 14.5 hectares. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov.
“Upper and Lower Kuzminsky Ponds are part of a cascade of water bodies on the Churilikha River and are located within the territory of the State Museum-Reserve ‘Kuzminki-Lyublino.’ At the time of the survey, the water bodies were in unsatisfactory condition: large volumes of silt deposits had accumulated at the bottom, and the shoreline zones were deteriorating. In this regard, a decision was made to carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation of the ponds, which has now been fully completed,” said Petr Biryukov.
The rehabilitation work was carried out in stages. First, specialists extracted silt deposits totaling over 46 thousand cubic meters. A dredger was used for this purpose. The water level was partially lowered, which did not affect the established ecosystem. After that, the shoreline areas of the Lower Kuzminsky Pond were restored. Then, a bioplato zone covering more than 860 square meters was arranged. More than 15,000 plants will be planted here.
Experts regularly conduct examinations of the capital’s water bodies. If problems are identified, a decision is made to rehabilitate them. The list of water bodies is compiled annually taking into account the wishes of Muscovites.
