From August 24 to 30, at the Moscow Zoo, which is subordinate to the capital Department of Culture, Katya’s Panda Week will take place, celebrating its third anniversary this year. The program will be dedicated to bamboo bears and Chinese culture.
“The celebrations will open on August 24 — exactly on this day, three years ago, the much-anticipated daughter of the giant pandas Zhui and Dindin was born, becoming a beloved figure and a symbol of Russian-Chinese friendship. Katyusha will receive gifts every day from August 24 to 30 as part of talks with the keeper,” emphasized Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.
On the opening day of the themed week, representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Russia will visit the zoo. At 14:00, a gift will be presented to Katyusha for them. You will be able to watch how the congratulations are prepared for the panda and how she receives the gift both at the zoo and on the page with online broadcast from the enclosure.
An entertainment and educational program has been prepared for visitors. From August 24 to 30, you can join tours, quests, lectures, workshops, and conversations with the keepers, as well as watch documentary films.
Guests from the Celestial Empire
Every day from 10:00 to 14:00, a themed quest for children and adults will be available on the zoo grounds. The tasks will be published in advance on the institution’s social media page. “VKontakte” and in his Telegram channel.
In addition, every day from 12:00 to 14:00, creative workshops will be held in both the old and new areas. On August 29 and 30, from 12:00 to 16:00, a creative workshop zone will be open near the “Primates” pavilion. To participate, an entrance ticket is sufficient zoo, no prior registration is required.
Another daily event will be a series of tours called “Guests from the Celestial Empire,” dedicated to the fauna of China. On August 24, the event will start at 1:00 PM at the main entrance. From August 25 to 28, the meetings will take place there at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. On the weekend of August 29 and 30, tours are scheduled every hour from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. At 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM groups will gather at the main entrance, and at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM — at the stage next to the “Primates” pavilion in the new territory. Up to 25 people can participate in a tour simultaneously. Registration is not required, only a zoo admission ticket will be needed.
On August 24 and August 30, a lecture will take place at the Moscow Zoo lecture hall “Katyusha Reveals Secrets”, and on August 26 and 29 — “Giant Pandas – Mysterious Guests from the East”. Prior registration is required using the “Mosbilet” service to attend.
In addition, on August 24, there will be themed shows, including the “Lion Dance” and the “Dragon Dance,” performances by children’s groups, as well as a win-win lottery. A similar program is planned for August 29 and 30. Only an entrance ticket is required to attend the events.
On August 25 and 27 at 12:00, as well as on August 26, 28, and 30 at 14:00, there will be educational talks with keepers near the “China Fauna” pavilion. Zoo staff will share interesting facts about the lives of giant pandas. Interactive and play areas will also be available at this pavilion. On August 24, 27, 28, 29, and 30, visitors can enjoy them from 13:00 to 15:00, and on August 25 and 26—from 14:00 to 16:00. No registration is required.
On August 29 at 13:30, zoo guests are invited to a master class “Food.” There, they will be able to prepare a treat for the giant pandas. Only an admission ticket is required to participate.
At the library of the Moscow Zoo on August 29 and 30 at 13:00, the documentary film “Panda Katyusha: the first in Russia” will be shown. Prior registration will be required to attend the screenings through the service “Mosbilet”.
