Today we celebrate the day of one of the main symbols of our country – the Russian tricolor.
How did it all begin?
The flag became a state symbol under Peter I. On January 20, 1705, a decree was issued mandating the raising of the white-blue-red flag on merchant ships. However, the flag acquired official status only in 1896.
By the way, the navy still maintains a beautiful ceremony – the solemn hoisting of the national flag on a new ship before its first voyage.
The Flag Day itself was established on August 22, 1991 — after the historic tricolor replaced the symbol of Soviet Russia — the red flag with the hammer and sickle.
There is no official interpretation of the colors of the Russian flag, but according to some interpretations, the white color is associated with peace, purity, moral impeccability, and the aspiration for peaceful coexistence.
Blue symbolizes faith, devotion, stability, loyalty to the Fatherland. Red symbolizes power, energy, courage, strength, the country’s sovereignty, the will of the people, and the memory of those who died defending the Motherland. There are also versions: white — the endless snows of the North and Siberia, blue — rivers, lakes, and seas, red — historical battlefields for independence and a symbol of state power.
We are one country.
Our national flag holds great significance for the people and for the country. It unites all citizens and reminds us of our rich history.
