United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale condemned the Russian strike on the shopping center in Kryvyi Rih. Preliminary data indicates at least 14 people were killed, more than 100 were injured, including several children.
“While Kyiv mourns the civilians killed yesterday, today the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation struck the center of Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The footage depicting residents killed and wounded in a busy shopping center on Friday afternoon is horrifying,” Schmale stated.
About half an hour after the initial attack, when rescuers were already working at the scene, a second strike followed.
The humanitarian coordinator expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a full recovery to the injured.
Strikes on densely populated cities
Schmaler noted that over the past weeks, strikes on several densely populated cities in Ukraine have already destroyed or damaged residential buildings, a hospital, a school, markets, and public buses. According to him, such attacks disrupt the daily lives of peaceful residents.
“International humanitarian law prohibits indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian objects. Civilians must always be protected,” emphasized the UN representative.
