In the capital, the advance of the pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Moscow River near Ostrovnaya Street continues. It will connect the Mnevniki floodplain with the Krylatskoye district.
“The unique nature of the structure is due to the combination of an arch and a cable-stayed scheme; in the riverbed part, there are ‘disintegrating’ support arches to which the span structure will be suspended. This approach allows for the creation of a long span with a minimal number of supports, while maintaining high reliability,” Sergey Sobyanin reported on his channel.

Thanks to this, the bridge will have minimal impact on the natural area, and its approaches will be organically integrated into the existing landscape.
As part of the large urban development projects for the Mnevniki and Filevskaya floodplains, the construction of five automotive and pedestrian-bicycle bridges over the Moskva River is planned. Two of them are already open, and three are under construction. In particular, the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge aligned with Ostrovnaya Street, measuring 225 meters in length (500 meters including approaches) and nine meters in width, will provide convenient connectivity between the Mnevniki floodplain and the Krylatskoye district, creating uninterrupted running and cycling routes, as well as new walking paths for approximately 270 thousand residents of the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki and Krylatskoye districts. The work is ahead of schedule, with completion planned for 2026.
The method of longitudinal launching is used to erect the bridge: the structure is assembled on a launching girder, and then horizontally moved onto the supports — using powerful hydraulic jacks and pushing devices until installed in the designed position.
“Simultaneously, cranes are being used to install large blocks of the permanent structure’s arches from the temporary bridges. An access road for servicing the site is also being constructed. Construction and installation work is progressing ahead of schedule, and we plan to complete it by 2026,” the Mayor of Moscow specified.

In addition, a 460-meter access road (one lane) is being constructed to service the facility.

Improving transport accessibility
In recent years, the Mnevniki floodplain has been one of the city’s largest development centers. A modern urban district is being formed here, including residential quarters, sports centers, a surfing park, and numerous green recreational areas. By the order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the National Space Center was built in the Filevskaya floodplain.

To serve these facilities, two stations were opened in the Mnevniki floodplain in 2021 Large Circle Line Metro — “Mnevniki” and “Terekovo.” Reconstruction of Nizhnie Mnevniki street, part of the North-West Chord, has been carried out, including the construction of bridges over the Moscow River and locks.
Currently, a street and road network development project is being implemented in the territory of the Mnevniki and Filevskaya floodplains, within the framework of which the following will be constructed:
— new city streets to provide access to the residential complexes under construction, sports facilities, and metro stations;
— three road bridges across the Moskva River: the Gagarinsky Bridge near Myasishchev Street (opened December 26, 2024), the Academician Korolev Bridge near Beregovoy Drive (opened September 9, 2025), and the sail-shaped bridge near Novozavodskaya Street (under construction), as well as an overpass over the main section of the Northwest Chord towards Rublevskoye Highway (opened September 9, 2025);
— two combined pedestrian and bicycle bridges over the Moskva River to Ostrovnaya Street (Krylatskoye district) and towards Fili Park (currently under construction).
In addition, two pedestrian crossings are being constructed in the Mnevniki floodplain — an overpass (over the North-West chord) and an underpass (near the intersection of Projected Driveways No. 1165 and 1166).
Also planned is the reconstruction of the Moscow River embankments with a total length of more than 10 kilometers, including the Shelepikhinskaya, Karamyshevskaya embankments, the embankment from Filevsky Park to the ‘Pyotr Fomenko Workshop’ theater, and the embankments of the Mnevniki floodplain (currently under construction and design).
New pedestrian bridges
From 2022 to 2025, six pedestrian bridges were constructed in Moscow:
— across the Yauza River as part of the “Elektrozavodskaya” transport hub (111 meters):
— near the Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman (243 meters);
— in the area of Budayskaya Street (78 meters);
— across the Tsyganka River as part of the construction of the Voskresenskoye — Karakashevo — Shcherbinka highway (14 meters);
— across the Moscow River’s Vodootvodny Canal, connecting the tip of Balchug Island and Krymskaya Embankment (58 meters);
— via Nagatinsky backwater (219 meters).
Plans for 2026–2028 include the construction of two more pedestrian bridges:
— across the Moskva River to Ostrovnaya Street — will connect the Mnevniki floodplain with the Krylatskoye district (225 meters);
— across the Moskva River towards Fili Park — will connect the park and the Mnevnikovskaya floodplain (200 meters).
