Beijing, August 20 /Xinhua/ — On August 15, 108 tourists from various regions of China crossed the state border through the Er’en Hot automobile checkpoint /Autonomous Region of Inner Mongolia, Northern China/ and headed to the Mongolian city of Zamyn-Ude for tourism purposes. This marked the official launch of a one-day cross-border tour from Er’en Hot to Zamyn-Ude, reported the Chinese daily newspaper “Neimenggu Ribao”.
Erenhot is the largest comprehensive land border crossing opened by China for Mongolia, located just 9 km from the center of the city of Zamyn-Üüd. According to the tour program, on the first day tourists can visit the cultural and tourist attractions of Erenhot, and the next day cross through the Erenhot vehicle checkpoint to Zamyn-Üüd to take a one-day excursion around this border city of Mongolia.
It is reported that tourists heading to Dzamyn-Ude do not need to arrange passports and visas in advance. To participate in such group tours, they only need to provide valid identity documents to travel agencies that have an official license for organizing cross-border tourism. All processes – from filling out the list of Chinese citizens undertaking group cross-border tours to verifying information about tour group members and issuing passes – are carried out by the travel agencies.
A separate regime applies to tourist groups, so the customs clearance process goes smoothly and usually takes no more than 30 minutes. Since August 15, travel agencies in Erenhot, licensed to organize cross-border tourism, have begun regularly organizing one-day tours to Zamyn-Uud.
