The Moscow Puppet Theater will present the play “The Fates of the Petrograd District” based on the play by Konstantin Fedorov. In ancient Greek mythology, the Moirai are goddesses of fate who determine a person’s life and its duration. In this story, three sisters, the Moirai, are responsible for the destinies of the residents of the Petrograd district of Saint Petersburg.
The sisters have already grown old, tired of the long northern winters, and dream of retiring to return to Greece. But one day they lose the magical scissors that cut the threads of life. Now, in the Petrogradsky district, no one dies, and those whose time should have ended suddenly get a chance at a second life.
The production uses unusual glove puppets with finger-legs. Each puppet is made from a real glove selected to match the character — for example, from wool or leather. Additionally, many buildings are presented as models of real houses from the Petrograd district — a tribute to the playwright, who connected the fairy tale plot with the real geography of his city.
The play was nominated in five categories of the Russian National Theater Award “Golden Mask.”
The playwright is Konstantin Fedorov, the director and artist is Alexandra Lovyannikova, and the composer is Andrey Zanoga.
Starring: Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Anastasia Ignatenko, Marina Romanova, Honored Artist of the Moscow Region Natalia Tretyak, and Nikolai Voronov.
