The VIII Moscow Interior and Design Week has concluded in the capital, which welcomed its millionth visitor. About 1,300 companies from 13 countries participated, including Belarus, the UAE, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. For the first time, India and North African countries presented their national exhibitions.

At the Central Exhibition Hall “Manege” as part of the project “Summer in Moscow” the companies found buyers, suppliers, and discussed further cooperation. The guests of the event, in turn, got acquainted with young brands and discovered new products from already familiar companies. 450 companies were represented on site in person. The event also featured 46 foreign companies from 12 countries. The theme of this season is “Infinity of color.”

“When decorating their spaces, the participants were inspired by the palette of summer Moscow and its architecture. We wanted to show the full diversity of the city’s bright colors. Moscow Interior and Design Week grows larger each year: in four years, the number of participants has nearly quadrupled. This season brought together young companies just starting their journey and established entrepreneurs with their own serial productions. The main focus of the exhibition is supporting domestic companies. Participating in it helps to find new partners and customers, increase sales, and raise brand recognition,” she said

Kristina Kostroma, the head of the Moscow Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development.

“Made in Moscow”: architecture as a metaphor

The centerpiece of the exhibition was the booth of the “Made in Moscow” project, covering an area of 180 square meters, where 80 Moscow-based brands showcased their products. Its concept was built around an architectural metaphor: five skyscrapers were combined into a large-scale installation, with each tower revealing a distinct direction in interior design.

The first is dedicated to plastic forms — furniture and object design. The second explores decorative materials and textures. The third combines decor and art. The fourth tells the story of metropolitan manufacturing. The fifth, inspired by the main building of Lomonosov Moscow State University, unites all directions. The stand presented Moscow as a unique platform where manufacturers, designers, and architects from Russia and other countries meet.

Season premieres

One of the main premieres of the week was the debut show of singer Katya Aiyova’s original collection of furniture and interior objects, created in collaboration with the company Woodi — the first public presentation of the artist’s work in the field of product design. The author also selected eight objects by Russian creators, which complemented the exhibition. The items reflect current trends in collectible design and new names in the industry.

For the first time at Moscow Interior and Design Week, the design studio Angelina Askeri Interiors presented a collection created specifically for the company Vetvi. The pieces are based on brass, bone china, natural stone, and glass. The exhibition was complemented by furniture from Alex Home and floral arrangements made of cold porcelain from the Jardiz studio.

The brand Svoy art has presented a limited collection of functional art objects “Emity” — desk lamps in bright and whimsical designs, created specifically for the event in collaboration with architect and designer, founder of the architectural bureau Art Group and the brand Reda, Darya Vasilkova.

At the exhibition, the company Homebody presented a new armchair — the item was so fresh that its model has not yet been added even to the brand’s website. Guests became some of the first to see the novelty before its official launch for sale.

Moreover, India’s ‘Niti’ project demonstrated how traditional craft techniques are reflected in contemporary product design, while the North African countries’ exhibition ‘Caravan’ told of the cultural exchange that has shaped the region’s artistic traditions over centuries.

Business program: experts from Russia and other countries

The business program of the week brought together about 50 sessions and 200 Russian and foreign experts, including representatives from Belarus, Egypt, India, and Turkey. The speakers discussed the development of local brands, new technologies in the design industry, and Moscow’s role as one of the centers of professional dialogue.

One of the main foreign speakers was Hisham Mahdi, the founder of the Cairo Design Week festival. He spoke as part of the partnership between Moscow Interior and Design Week and the Cairo festival. The collaboration continued the capital event’s collaborations with global exhibitions. During his speech, he shared that when working on his projects, he was inspired by the color palette of Red Square, and also noted the scale of the week.

“Moscow Interior and Design Week turned out to be larger in scale than I expected. I came to Moscow partly to meet Russian architects and designers and to see their projects. For me, such trips are primarily about people and professional connections, from which joint projects may later emerge. I hope these acquaintances will continue,” he said.

In addition to the invited speakers, industry experts worked on the content of the business program, helping to strengthen its concept. Among them are Konstantin Tsepelev, lighting designer and founder of the lighting company Bright Buro; Sofya Ernst, actress, creative producer, and founder of the cultural center “Istok”; decorator, designer, and TV host Marat Ka; designer and architect Alexander Kononenko; as well as stylist Darya Zotova.

Excursions and collaborations of participants

In four days of the exhibition, 33 guided tours were held at the Manege exposition, conducted by design historians. More than 1,170 visitors participated in them. The Week of Interior and Design was also supported by a large-scale city program — more than 30 exhibitions, lectures, open days, business breakfasts, and special evenings took place at venues across the city. The program will continue until the end of August.

At the exhibition, participants found new partners and buyers, and also discussed further cooperation. For example, the company Element sold products averaging more than 500 thousand rubles per day.

The home decor and interior brand Dzadza received a collaboration offer from the developer MR Group: the developer proposed that the company furnish premium residential complexes with its products. Additionally, at the exhibition, the company found a leather supplier for its own production.

The furniture manufacturer “Lub” signed a contract for the implementation of custom workbenches for production. The Russian manufacturer of interior constructor lamps 33 lab received an offer for a collaboration with a furniture brand to develop a lighting line. The Moscow handmade furniture workshop Form found partners in the field of metal oxidation at the exhibition.

Moscow Interior and Design Week maintains a free format for exhibitors. This season, small and medium-sized enterprises accounted for 59 percent of all participating companies, and 88.6 percent of them are micro-enterprises. Thus, the exhibition continues to be not only a sales point but also a launchpad for small brands and young entrepreneurs, helping them find new partners, enter the market, and make themselves known to a wide audience.

Moscow Interior and Design Week once again became one of the drivers of development for the Russian industry, confirming Moscow’s status as a world design capital and a platform for supporting young brands.
