On August 15, the “Octopus Trail” was opened in Nakhodka – a unique 6.2 km pedestrian walking route that connects the picturesque bays of Kozina, Otrada, and Prozrachnaya. The eco-trail will be able to accommodate up to 70 thousand people annually. The project was created under the “Trails of the Far East” program with funds from the unified presidential Far Eastern subsidy of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, supported by the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV).
“The Far East is amazing nature. Each Far Eastern territory can surprise travelers, show tourists the unusual beauty of its places, and introduce interesting routes. We want as many people as possible to engage in active recreation—both residents of the Far East and those who are just discovering our Far East. To that end, there is a project to create tourist routes called ‘Trails of the Far East,’ and a decision has been made to organize a nationwide contest for the best journey titled ‘Far East – Land of Adventures.’ Genuine love for the Motherland and true patriotism grow from personal travels across the country, getting to know its rivers, hills, and nature,” said Deputy Chairman of the Government and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.
The route includes terrain paths, ascents and descents, stairs, viewing platforms, and boardwalks, making it accessible not only to experienced tourists but also to families with children and elderly people. From the trail, there are panoramic views of Askold Island, the Crystal Waterfall, and Dragon Rock. In total, more than 20 observation points have been arranged, and informational stands, signposts, and observation towers are installed along the entire length of the route.
“Octopus Trail” is an object of the master plan for the development of the Nakhodka urban district.
“In the Far East, within the framework of the ‘Trails of the Far East’ project, the ‘Sacred Path’ trail and the Great Sukhotin Trail in the Transbaikal Territory, the Health Trail in the Republic of Buryatia, and the Russian Cycling Trail in Primorsky Krai have already been opened. The ‘Octopus Trail’ became the fifth facility put into operation within the project. We see how iconic natural corners of the macroregion are transformed, becoming accessible to tens of thousands of people. With each new route, whether it be the picturesque bays of Primorye or other regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, we move closer to the main goal – to make the unique nature of the macroregion open, safe, and comfortable for every resident and visitor,” noted the head of the ‘Trails of the Far East’ project, Khaid Mantaev.
The presentation of the new pedestrian route took place as part of the annual regional gastronomic festival “Sea! Flounder!”.
The “Far East Trails” project is being implemented on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister – Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev, using funds pa resident Far Eastern unified subsidy of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East with the support of KRDV. In total, within the framework of the program, 18 tourist routes are being arranged in nine regions of the Far Eastern Federal District with a total lengthyofully 126.8 km.
