Today, August 11, a visit of the President of the Russian Federation took place Vladimir Putin to the campus site of Novosibirsk State University, which is being built as part of the project “Creation of a network of modern campuses” of the national project “Youth and Children.” During the visit, the President familiarized himself with the modern educational and research infrastructure of the campus and visited the leisure center Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (SUNC) of NSU. The head of state was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov, Assistant to the President Andrey Fursenko, Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrey Travnikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov, Rector of NSU Dmitry Pyshny.
Construction of the NSU campus has been underway since 2021 and includes two phases. The facilities of the first phase, which has an area of over 53 thousand square meters, include the NSU Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (SUNC) academic building (Physics and Mathematics School), the NSU SUNC leisure center, and a complex of two NSU dormitories for 690 people. They were completed in 2024 and opened their doors to students in September 2024. The second stage of the construction of the first phase is currently being implemented — a new NSU SUNC dormitory with a capacity of 564 people is being built, which is planned to be completed in 2027.
The SUUNC NSU leisure center includes a convertible assembly hall, its own planetarium, several types of sports halls (ranging from general to gym and choreography), a school museum, an arts classroom, a music hall, a media library, and well-equipped common areas for comfortable independent rest and leisure for students. The total capacity of the building is 900 people.
At the leisure center site of the Novosibirsk State University’s Special Physics and Mathematics School, Vladimir Putin held a meeting with young scientists — graduates of the Physics and Mathematics School and Novosibirsk State University, employees of the SKIF Center for Collective Use (CCU). NSU is a leader in training scientific specialists for the SKIF CCU: currently, 98 NSU graduates of various years work on this megascience-class facility, with 82 graduates employed in scientific departments, including 25 graduates under the age of 27. Additionally, young employees who are still studying at NSU — students and graduate students — also work at SKIF.
The second phase of the construction of the NSU campus includes three facilities, the construction of which is funded by the federal budget, with a total area of 40,000 square meters. These are the NSU lecture hall building, which was completed at the end of 2024 and became operational in September 2025; the educational and scientific center of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies, with commissioning approval obtained in June 2026; and the NSU research center, whose construction will be completed in the second half of 2026.
