Beijing, August 10 /Xinhua/ — Chinese police have dismantled more than 1,000 criminal groups and detained over 8,200 suspects during a nationwide operation targeting organized crime, particularly groups using covert and adaptable tactics, the Ministry of Public Security of the PRC reported on Monday.
The agency specified that in the course of this operation, more than 5,400 criminal cases were solved across the country.
As noted by the ministry, in recent years Chinese police have maintained a tough stance against organized criminal groups, effectively curbing their activities and contributing to a sustainable improvement in public security. However, some criminal groups have begun using online platforms and “soft” violence to commit crimes and rapidly expand their operations.
Recently, new forms of organized crime have been becoming increasingly common, including predatory online lending schemes, coercion into consumption, and cyberbullying.
The ministry promised to continue acting proactively in the fight against organized crime, promptly suppressing the activities of criminal groups as they emerge and conducting regular nationwide operations.
In recent years, China has seen a decline in crime rates, while the population’s sense of security has steadily strengthened. According to official data, in 2025 the number of criminal cases nationwide decreased by 12.8 percent year-on-year, reaching the lowest level since 2000, and the number of cases related to public security violations decreased by 3.5 percent.
