From August 1, an illustrated book exhibition “Architectural Monuments of the Suburbs” is open in the reading room of the scientific and technical library of SPbGASU (room 217), timed to coincide with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Leningrad region.
The exhibition introduces readers to publications dedicated to the architectural heritage of the suburbs of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region. The display features books, albums, illustrated editions, and scholarly publications that tell the history of the creation of palace and park ensembles, estates, churches, public buildings, and other architectural monuments, as well as their study, preservation, and restoration.
The exhibition materials will be of interest to students in architectural, construction, and restoration fields, teachers, researchers, and everyone interested in the history of domestic architecture and issues related to the preservation of cultural heritage sites.
The exhibition is organized as part of the preparations for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Leningrad Region. The region will mark its centennial in 2027. Preparations for this date are being carried out in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated August 8, 2022, No. 527 “On the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Formation of the Leningrad Region”.
The upcoming anniversary has already become an incentive for the implementation of large-scale projects aimed at preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Leningrad Region. Among the key initiatives is a long-term program of “digital restoration” of cultural heritage sites and the reconstruction of iconic architectural ensembles, designed to preserve the unique architectural appearance of the region for future generations. This program will be implemented jointly with SPbGASU.
In addition, the Leningrad Region will become one of the venues for the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, which will allow its historical and cultural heritage to be presented to a wide professional and public audience.
The exhibition “Architectural Monuments of the Suburbs” continues the tradition of the scientific and technical library of SPbGASU to introduce readers to literature dedicated to the history of architecture, urban planning, and restoration. The exposition not only reveals the richness of the architectural heritage of the suburbs but also reminds of the importance of its preservation — one of the key tasks of modern architects, restorers, and engineers.
