In the first six months of 2026, Muscovites collected more than 2,800 tons of plastic and glass containers using special bell-shaped containers. These are installed in various districts of the capital and allow residents to conveniently deliver recyclables for processing. This was reported by urban utilities complex Moscow.
Yellow and green bins appeared in the capital in 2018 as part of the Moscow Government’s program. Today, about a thousand such containers are installed in the city. They are located within walking distance: in parks, near metro stations, and on busy streets. The containers are serviced by the city regional operator. JSC “Ecotechprom”.
The yellow bins are intended for collecting plastic, except for items made from plastics of types three and seven, products made of polyvinyl chloride and mixed types of plastic are not suitable for recycling.
You can deposit both whole glass containers and broken glass into the green bins. However, ceramic products, crystal, mirrors, sheet glass, and optical glass must not be placed in such containers.
Before handing over recyclables, they need to be prepared. It is recommended to rinse plastic bottles, cans, and glass containers, clean them from food residues, and dry them. The shrink film must also be removed from plastic packaging.
Waste paper, metal, and other recyclable materials must be placed in blue containers for secondary raw materials, installed at specialized sites in courtyards. Gray containers are intended for mixed and contaminated waste.
Collected plastic and glass from bells are sent to recycling plants, where they get a second life and are used to produce new products. Thanks to separate collection, it is possible to reduce the volume of waste disposal and return valuable materials to economic circulation.
Earlier, the Moscow city utilities complex reported that in the first six months of 2026, visitors of the new eco-center of the regional operator JSC “EkoTechProm” handed over for recycling over 20 tons of various types of secondary raw materials.
The most popular recyclable material is waste paper: more than 4.9 tons were handed in. In second place is glass: nearly 3.7 tons of glass jars and bottles. In third place are products made of tinplate or thin sheet steel: more than 1.2 tons were collected.
