In the Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia, a department of the State Museum of the Defense of Moscow, subordinate to the capital To the Department of Culture, there is an exhibition “Russian World. The Return.” It is dedicated to the fates of the people of Donbass and Novorossiya: servicemen, volunteers, doctors, priests, volunteers, whose stories reflect the events of the last decade. Tickets can be purchased through the service “Mosbilet”.
The exhibition is based on items from the collection of the State Museum of Moscow Defense. Among them are memorial complexes dedicated to Russian heroes Alexander Popov, Alexander Potapov, Maxim Bakharev, Andrey Solovyev, as well as Archpriest Mikhail Vasilyev and the Order of Courage holder Alexey Fursov. The exposition is complemented by paintings by Maxim Fayustov, Igor Raevich, and Alexey Kryukov, as well as photographs by war correspondents Dmitry Yagodkin and Maria Lurye.
“The exhibition is bright and very sincere. It is a true window into that other reality, where our guys bravely fight the enemy and risk their lives every second. It is important for them to know that in the rear they are remembered and supported. If the rear forgets where the front is, then the front will be where the rear is today. Such exhibitions will not allow us to forget. And that is very right,” noted Konstantin Ryzhak, chairman of the regional public organization “Council of Our Own.”
The exhibition features the vestments of Archpriest Mikhail Vasilyev — a clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church, posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation for courage and heroism displayed while performing civil duty in conflict zones.
Among the heroes whose stories are shown at the exhibition is Senior Lieutenant Alexander Potapov, a special forces officer. Since February 24, 2022, he has participated in the special military operation (SMO) to defend the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. For courage and heroism displayed during combat, by decree of the President of Russia dated September 29, 2022, he was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation.
One of the heroes of the “Russian World. Return” project was Captain Maksim Bakharev. For courage, bravery, and selflessness displayed in the performance of military duty, in 2024 he was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation by decree of the President of Russia.
A special place in the exhibition is occupied by the story of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov. The head of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a candidate of military sciences, he was awarded the titles Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation and Hero of the Russian Federation — in 2021 and 2024 respectively.
Among the defenders of Donbass, whose stories come to life at the exhibition, is Senior Lieutenant Andrey Solovyov. He took part in the special military operation to protect the peaceful population of Donbass. For his courage and heroism, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
One of the heroes of the exhibition was veteran combatant and participant of the Special Military Operation Alexey Fursov. He was awarded two Orders of Courage, the medals “For Combat Merit” and “For Rescuing the Perishing.” During the fighting, he saved the lives of many servicemen.
The exhibition “Russian World. The Return” is open until September 27.
