Beijing, August 3 /Xinhua/ — On Sunday, in Harbin, the administrative center of Heilongjiang Province /Northeast China/, the China-Russia Youth Friendly Chess Tournament 2026 began. This was reported by the Chinese news agency “Zhongguo Xinwen She.”
It is reported that a total of 15 chess players from both sides are participating in the tournament, including 8 from the Chinese side and 7 from the Russian side. The tournament features team competitions in classical, rapid, and blitz chess.
It should be recalled that a similar tournament has been regularly held alternately in China and Russia since 2014. This year, the event is being held for the third time in Harbin following 2017 and 2024. It aims to further strengthen the friendship between the youth of China and Russia, as well as to promote the continuous development of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in China-Russia relations in the new era, the statement notes.
The organizers of the current tournament were the Chess and Card Affairs Center under the General Administration of Sports of China and the Chess Association of China.
