Harbin, August 2 /Xinhua/ — “After seven years of joint efforts by the Chinese and Russian sides, the construction of the main facility of the first cross-border cable car between China and Russia has been completed,” said Zhang Cijun, Deputy Head of the Management Committee of the Heihe Section of the China Pilot Free Trade Zone in Heilongjiang Province (Northeast China), on August 2.
According to him, as one of the iconic projects of cross-border cooperation between the two countries, the construction of the main cable passenger crossing facility over the Heilongjiang River on the Heihe – Blagoveshchensk route has already been completed. It is reported that the horizontal length of the cable car is about 970 meters. The cable ferry’s operating system is one of the most advanced in the world. There are two cabins on the line, each designed to carry 110 people. The maximum speed is 12 meters per second, with a travel time of 6-8 minutes one way. The design throughput in one direction is 2.6 million people per year.
Xinhua reporters, who recently visited the construction site of the cross-border cable car, saw that the installation of the supports and pylons for the cable crossing had already been completed, and steel cables were stretched, connecting the structures of the facilities in the cities of Heihe and Blagoveshchensk. From the shore of the border Heilongjiang River, this cross-border cable car crossing looks impressive.
Zhang Qijun noted that Heihe and Blagoveshchensk are separated by a river, and the distance between them at the narrowest point is only about 750 meters.
