Madrid, July 31 /Xinhua/ — About 50,000 migrants have entered the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa from neighboring Morocco, the death toll in the attempt to reach the enclave by sea on Friday has risen to at least 34 people.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described this incident as a “violation of Spain’s territorial integrity”.
According to Spanish authorities, most of the victims drowned while attempting to swim around the border breakwater El Tarajal, which separates Morocco and Ceuta.
On Friday, P. Sanchez, together with Spain’s Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska, arrived in Ceuta to assess the situation on site.
