Beijing, July 31 /Xinhua/ — The People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) will promote high-quality modernization of national defense and armed forces and accelerate the development of advanced combat capabilities. This was stated on Friday by China’s Minister of Defense, Dong Jun.

Dun Jun made this statement at a solemn reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, organized by the Ministry of National Defense of the PRC in honor of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the PLA, which is celebrated on August 1.

Noting that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the successful completion of the Red Army’s Long March, he stated that the PLA continues the glorious traditions and strengthens the excellent style, ensuring its loyalty to the party.

Emphasizing the commitment of the Chinese armed forces to always be fully prepared for any unforeseen situation, Dong Jun stated that the PLA will serve as a strong bastion for the cause of China’s national reunification and will resolutely suppress any attempts at separatism aimed at achieving “Taiwan independence” and any external military intervention.

The PLA is ready to join forces with all forces of justice to jointly counter actions that undermine international and regional peace and stability, overcome global security challenges, and demonstrate the responsibility and commitments of the armed forces of a major power through concrete actions, summarized the Minister of Defense of China. –0–
