A meeting was held at the Government Coordination Center under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to discuss the preservation and development of the Solovetsky Archipelago. The meeting addressed the fulfillment of Government directives related to the progress of work on the preservation of cultural heritage sites and the construction of new infrastructure facilities, as well as the implementation of activities to develop the Solovetsky Archipelago.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Culture Sergey Obryvalin, the First Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Alexander Lomakin, the Chairman of the Council of the Fund for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago Andrey Guts, Bishop of Ozersk and Abbot of the Transfiguration Solovetsky Stavropegial Male Monastery Porfiry, Abbess, Head of the Legal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate Ksenia (Chernega), representatives from the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources, Federal Agency for State Property Management, the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region and others.
“By the decree of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in 2029 our country will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovetsky Archipelago. As part of the preparations for the anniversary, extensive interdepartmental work is underway. It is intended to give impetus not only to large-scale modernization and the creation of infrastructure but also to the development of the country’s spiritual and cultural life. In addition to the main previously allocated budget funds, additional funds are being allocated to the project – this confirms its priority status. Primarily, these will go toward creating infrastructure for a comfortable and prosperous life in the Solovetsky settlement: for example, major repairs of residential buildings and the construction of a sports hall. It is important to responsibly approach the preparation of this anniversary so that in the next 100 years the local residents and guests of the Arkhangelsk region will remember the work done with kind words,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines for work completion and promptly resolving all arising issues.
He added that recently President Vladimir Putin signed a decree granting the Fund for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago the authority to create improvement facilities and to update the composition of the fund’s board of trustees.
The chairman of the board of the Foundation for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago, Andrey Guts, spoke about the progress of restoration work on cultural heritage sites, as well as the construction and reconstruction of infrastructure facilities. In particular, according to the schedule, restoration works are underway on the seaplane hangar, the cathedral bell tower, the icon painting chamber, the Svyatitelsky and Blagoveshchensky buildings, the churches named after St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and other objects. Earthworks are being carried out at the monastery power station as part of archaeological supervision. Following Dmitry Chernyshenko’s directive, the issue of major repairs to apartment buildings that are cultural heritage sites is being studied.
A positive conclusion has also been obtained from the “Glavgosexpertiza” on the project documentation for the exhibition-administrative building of the Solovetsky State Historical-Architectural and Natural Museum-Reserve. The work is proceeding according to schedule. Additionally, in June – July, there was a working inspection trip by representatives of “Glavgosexpertiza” to the Solovetsky Archipelago.
The First Deputy Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region – Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, Alexey Alsufyev, reported that as part of the national project “Youth and Children,” a major overhaul of the kindergarten building is underway. Dismantling, electrical installation, finishing, and facade work are being carried out. Next year, it is planned to renovate the school building.
The region also submitted an application to participate in the All-Russian competition for the best projects in creating a comfortable urban environment, the results of which will be announced in September.
