Caracas, July 30 /Xinhua/ — Venezuela and Chile announced on Thursday the start of implementing a roadmap for the gradual normalization of bilateral relations. This was stated in a joint declaration by the governments of the two countries.
In the first stage, the parties agreed to resume consular relations as a first step towards the full restoration of bilateral ties. This is aimed at providing consular protection and services for citizens of Venezuela residing in Chile, and vice versa.
The statement says that the joint initiative is based on the historical ties of friendship and Latin American solidarity that have connected Venezuela and Chile since their formation as republics.
Both parties stated that the process of normalizing relations will be based on constructive dialogue and conducted in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, reciprocity, and strict adherence to the norms of international law. –0–
