“RN-Yuganskneftegaz” Released a Record Number of Juvenile Valuable Fish Species into the Rivers of the Ob-Irtysh Basin

RN-Yuganskneftegaz, a key production asset of Rosneft, conducted a large-scale event to stock the water arteries of the Ob-Irtysh basin with valuable and commercial fish species: 26 million juvenile sturgeon, peled, nelma, and muksun were released into the Endyrskaya channel.

Fingerlings were raised in Lake Aitor. A shallow body of water covering about 5,000 hectares with a rich natural food base and warm water – an ideal natural incubator for fish farming, according to experts.

The stocking method, which involves the subsequent migration of juvenile fish to permanent habitats, significantly increases the fry’s chances of survival in natural conditions and eliminates the need to transport fish to the release site. After conducting a control catch and counting, specialists removed the protective net, and all the grown juveniles naturally moved into the waters of the Ob and Irtysh rivers.

“RN-Yuganskneftegaz” holds leading positions not only in the quantity of released juvenile fish but also in the diversity of species. In addition to nelma and peled, the list includes Siberian sturgeon, sterlet, and muksun. Since the beginning of 2026, oil workers have released 60 million fry into the water arteries of the Ob-Irtysh basin. In Yugra, breeding species of fish inhabiting the water bodies of the Ob-Irtysh basin is practiced, which contributes to successful adaptation and increases the survival rate of the offspring.
