Bishkek, July 28 /Xinhua/ — In the era of digital and intelligent technologies, countries need to make joint efforts to create a safe, sustainable, and inclusive international information environment that promotes sustainable development. This was stated by participants of the expert forum held on Monday in Bishkek within the framework of the Summit of Media and Analytical Centers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2026.
The Head of the International Cooperation Directorate of the media group “Russia Today,” Vasily Pushkov, stated that in today’s world, which is experiencing a period of instability and turbulence, collaboration between experts from analytical centers and media representatives is extremely necessary to strengthen mutual understanding, mutual trust, and good neighborliness, as well as to create a platform for frank and substantive dialogue.
The Director of the Center for International Studies at Belarusian State University, Nikita Belenchenko, noted that countries should pay increased attention to the resilience of the information environment and informational independence, promote the creation of mechanisms for joint monitoring and early warning, deepen research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and jointly ensure information security against the backdrop of rapid AI technology development.
According to Liu Gan, director of the Xinhua Institute, unilateralism and protectionism continue to undermine the global order, while the intensification of geopolitical rivalry is testing the resilience of regional cooperation. As he emphasized, the SCO faces an important window of opportunity for qualitative improvement and modernization, which will require enhanced cooperation and the building of bridges of interaction between think tanks.
