Tbilisi, July 28 /Xinhua/ — This year, relations between Georgia and China have been elevated to a new level — a level of comprehensive strategic partnership, which has created new opportunities for further expansion of political and economic cooperation. This was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a solemn reception on Monday commemorating the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China /PLA/.
China is the third largest trading partner of Georgia and the second most important market for Georgian exports, he said, adding that the introduction of a visa-free regime and the expansion of direct air communication contribute to the development of tourism, business, and investment cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Prime Minister, the achieved results indicate that the partnership between Georgia and China brings mutual benefit to both sides. He emphasized that Georgia highly values China’s attitude towards it as an equal and respected partner. In circumstances where international relations are often characterized by double standards, such an approach deserves special recognition. I. Kobakhidze also expressed gratitude to the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the PRC to Georgia Zhou Qiang for his personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
Zhou Qiang summarized the development of China-Georgia relations over the past four years in his speech. According to him, this period was marked by accelerated development of bilateral cooperation and a consistent elevation of the relationship level.
The diplomat emphasized that China and Georgia consistently support each other on issues affecting the key interests of both countries. According to him, the Georgian side supports the concept put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative.
Zhou Qiang stated that it was a great honor for him to witness the rapid development of relations between China and Georgia and to take an active part in promoting bilateral cooperation.
The military attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Georgia, Colonel Du Qiao, in turn, noted that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the PLA has made an important contribution to protecting the country’s national sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as to maintaining peace and stability in the region and worldwide.
Du Qiao emphasized that the Chinese armed forces have participated in 26 UN peacekeeping operations, deploying more than 50,000 peacekeepers, and that the hospital ships of the PLA Navy have provided medical assistance to over 390,000 people in 53 countries and regions.
