Sansha, July 26 /Xinhua/ — Two more crew members of the sunken Vietnamese vessel were rescued by a Chinese helicopter in waters near the Yongshu Reef of the Nansha Archipelago in the South China Sea, bringing the total number of rescued people to 39 as of 09:17 on Sunday, officials from the city of Sansha /South China/ reported.
All those rescued are Vietnamese nationals from the distressed vessel “Khoi Nguyen 18”. A total of 62 people were on board.
On Saturday at approximately 18:23, the crew of the rescue ship “Nanhai Jiu 115”, operated by the Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of the PRC, noticed a parachute rocket – presumably a distress signal from a vessel in distress at sea. Search and rescue operations were deployed at the incident site involving 6 Chinese vessels, 1 rescue helicopter, and one Vietnamese vessel.
According to the Maritime Rescue Service of Sansha City, the vessel “Khoi Nguyen 18” is registered in Vietnam, with a length of 69.9 meters and a width of 10.8 meters.
