Beijing, July 23 /Xinhua/ — As of 8 a.m. Thursday, water levels exceeding the critical mark were recorded in six rivers across four regions of China, the Ministry of Water Resources of the PRC reported.
The cause of the rise in river water levels was heavy rainfall. According to the agency’s data, from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, heavy showers struck some areas of Hebei, Heilongjiang, Hubei and Jiangsu provinces.
Due to the rains, the water level in six rivers in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the provinces of Yunnan, Hebei, and Jiangsu rose above the critical mark. Currently, in all these rivers, it has fallen below that mark.
The Ministry of Water Management has appealed to the authorities of the relevant regions to ensure the safety of reservoirs during the flood period, as well as to take measures to prevent both floods on small and medium rivers and natural disasters related to mountain stream surges.
