Mexico City, July 23 /Xinhua/ — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Wednesday that she will meet with US Trade Representative Jameson Greer in Mexico City on Thursday, calling for calm amid the threat of new tariffs on exports by Washington.
K. Sheinbaum reported that her government is negotiating with the American administration to prevent the introduction of additional tariffs. According to her, Mexico’s Ministry of Economy has already presented its arguments against the proposed measures.
On Tuesday, J. Greer stated that Washington is considering implementing new tariffs on about 60 countries, as the 10 percent duties imposed earlier this year expire on Friday. He did not specify the timing or whether the tariffs will remain at the current level, but noted that the administration plans to take action soon.
