Beijing, July 23 /Xinhua/ — A tropical depression that formed over the waters east of the Philippines on Thursday morning is expected to develop into a typhoon within the next 12-24 hours and make landfall on the coast between the central-eastern part of Guangdong Province and the southern part of Fujian Province from the evening of July 25 to the early morning of July 26, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China reported.
After making landfall, the typhoon will move northwestward, gradually losing strength.
At 8 a.m. on Thursday, the tropical depression was located approximately 930 km east of Manila /Philippines/, moving northwest at a speed of 25-30 km/h.
This will be the third typhoon to make landfall in China this year, after typhoons “Maysak” and “Bavi”.
The NMC stated on Wednesday that two to three typhoons are expected to form over the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea within the next 10 days. One of them is expected to enter the northern part of the South China Sea around Saturday and affect the southern regions of China. -0-
