Kyiv, July 22 /Xinhua/ — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday announced on Telegram that Mykhailo Drapatyi will be appointed commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) instead of Oleksandr Syrsky.
The dismissal of A. Syrsky was one of the demands of the protests in Kyiv and a number of other Ukrainian cities, which erupted after the resignation of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
A. Syrsky has been heading the Armed Forces of Ukraine since February 2024.
Previously, M. Drapaty held the positions of Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine and Commander of the Joint Forces.
