Beijing, July 22 /Xinhua/ — The Disaster Relief Headquarters of Yunnan Province /Southwest China/ has initiated a Level 4 earthquake emergency response after a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck on Tuesday in the Mojiang Hani Autonomous County of Pu’er City in this province.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 occurred on Tuesday at 19:43 Beijing time, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported. The epicenter of the tremors was located at coordinates 23.19 degrees north latitude and 101.46 degrees east longitude. The hypocenter lay at a depth of 6 km.

The authorities of Yunnan Province have sent a working group to the affected area, and firefighters and rescue teams from the city of Pu’er and the Mojiang Hani Autonomous County were dispatched to the earthquake epicenter to assess the situation and assist local authorities.

As of 8:50 PM on Tuesday, the power supply infrastructure is operating normally, according to data from the local electricity network operator.
