The network of student design bureaus (SKB) is being established by order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

“Today, about 560 student design bureaus operate in all 89 regions of the country. These are true crucibles for training personnel for the country’s technological leadership, places where tomorrow’s engineering solutions are born. Nearly 2,000 companies have already become their industrial partners. Thanks to such cooperation, students gain their first experience in solving real engineering problems, learn to work with enterprises, and create in-demand developments. Importantly, the activities of student design bureaus correspond to the priority areas of Russia’s scientific and technological development and the national goals set by our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Starting this year, the competition has been included in the federal project “Universities for the Generation of Leaders” of the national project “Youth and Children.” This has allowed for an increase in the number of potential participants – now any university of any departmental affiliation can compete for the opportunity to open or develop its own Design and Engineering Bureau (DEB).

“Student design bureaus are becoming an important element in the training of engineering and technical personnel. A network of such platforms is being developed based on 529 universities and unites more than 73 thousand students, graduate students, and young scientists. Scaling up the competition will contribute to strengthening the connection between education, science, and the real sector of the economy,” said the head of the Ministry of Education and Science, Valery Falkov.

The competition is held in two categories: “Student Design Leadership” and “Creation and Development of a Student Design Bureau.” The winners will receive grants of 20 million and 5 million rubles, respectively.

You can apply on the GIIS “Electronic Budget” portal until August 24, 2026.

Recall that in April 2025, the winners of the first competition of student bureaus were announced: 15 universities received subsidies for the creation and development of their SKB.
