Beijing, July 19 /Xinhua/ — Under the influence of ongoing recent heavy rains and inflows from the upper reaches of rivers, floods have been recorded by Sunday on nine rivers in six regions of China against the background of water levels exceeding the danger mark in these rivers, the Ministry of Water Resources of the PRC reported.
From 8:00 Saturday to 8:00 Sunday, some parts of the provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, and Anhui, the city of Chongqing, and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region experienced rain ranging from heavy to torrential.
Against the backdrop of precipitation and inflow of water from the upper reaches, floods were recorded on seven rivers in five regions, with the water level in some of them being up to 0.75 meters above the danger mark. Floods slightly exceeding the danger mark formed on two rivers in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The ministry has extended the activation of the emergency response level 3 for floods in Liaoning and Jilin provinces, as well as the emergency response level 4 for floods in Guangdong, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces, and also in the city of Chongqing and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Let us recall that in China there is a four-level emergency response system for floods, with the first level being the most serious.
