Graduate of the Bachelor’s program at the Faculty of Automobile and Road Engineering Ivan Beshenets was recognized as the best graduate of SPbGASU in 2026.
The young specialist already combines scientific activity with work in the field of urban transport, plans to continue his studies in the master’s program at SPbGASU, and intends to develop his own scientific method of designing transport systems.
Ivan’s interest in the transportation industry appeared back in his school years. His initial research focused on hydrogen technologies, but over time, the primary direction of his work became the development of urban electric transport and transport planning.
During his studies at SPbGASU, Ivan actively engaged in research activities, participated in specialized competitions, worked on projects to improve the transportation system of Saint Petersburg, and interacted with representatives of the transportation industry. Already in his third year, he began combining his studies with professional work and today works as an assistant to the deputy director of SPb GUP “Gorelectrotrans.”
“We are currently working on a major project to improve the efficiency of the route network. Our task is to analyze the existing routes, identify overlapping sections, and propose solutions that will allow for more effective use of urban electric transport,” Ivan said.
A special place in the graduate’s scientific work is occupied by the development of his own method for the development of urban electric transport. According to him, existing approaches do not always take into account the specifics of particular cities, so he strives to create a universal system that can be applied in different conditions.
“My goal is to ensure that this method works not only in Saint Petersburg but also in other cities. I want scientific developments to bring real benefits and become a tool for making practical decisions,” noted Ivan Beshentsev.
Ivan emphasizes that a significant influence on his professional development was exerted by the professors of SPbGASU and the opportunity to engage in scientific work already during his studies.
“The most important thing the university gave me was the opportunity to work on real tasks and communicate with people involved in the development of the transportation industry. It was this that helped me finally understand that transport planning is something I want to do my whole life,” he says.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Ivan will continue his studies in the master’s program at SPbGASU, where he plans to further develop his research and prepare for admission to the doctoral program. In the future, he expects to defend his dissertation and continue working on the creation of a comprehensive theory of the development of urban transport systems.
The graduate advises prospective applicants to choose a profession primarily based on their vocation.
“The main thing is to enroll in a field that truly interests you. If a person is engaged in a beloved activity, it is much easier for them to develop. And, of course, one should not limit oneself only to university classes: independent study of literature, research work, and a constant desire to learn new things play a major role,” Ivan is confident.
