Beijing, July 16 /Xinhua/ — China is ready to work together with Papua New Guinea to continue providing strong mutual support on issues affecting the core interests of both sides. This was stated on Thursday by the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Lin Jian.

He made this statement at another departmental press conference in response to a request to comment on media reports that the government of Papua New Guinea announced on July 15 the decision to close its “economic office” in Taipei.

China highly appreciates this decision, Lin Jian noted, emphasizing that it once again demonstrates that adherence to the one-China principle enjoys broad recognition from the international community and is a general trend in the world.

China intends to work together with Papua New Guinea to jointly promote the steady development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the Chinese diplomat summarized.
