Beijing, July 16 /Xinhua/ — China’s civil aviation sector maintained steady growth in the first half of this year: total transportation turnover reached 83.37 billion ton-kilometers, an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the previous year, according to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Thursday.
During the reporting period, the volume of passenger transportation in this sector amounted to 380 million person-trips, which is 1 percent more than the previous year. According to UGA data, the volume of freight and postal shipments transported by airplanes increased by 6 percent to 5.073 million tons.
Sustainable expansion of international transportation became one of the main growth factors in the sector in the first half of the year. During this period, China added 7 international passenger routes and 19 international cargo routes.
Passenger traffic and cargo transportation volume of Chinese airlines in the Eurasian market have increased by more than 20 percent year-on-year. Notably, passenger flow to Central Asia, South Asia, and Latin America has increased by 79.8 percent, 42.3 percent, and 78.5 percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
The operational efficiency of the sector has been continuously improving. The flight regularity rate reached 93.5 percent in the first half of the year.
With the onset of the summer tourist peak, the average daily number of flights across the country recently recovered to 18 thousand, and the daily passenger traffic steadily remains at over 2 million people per day.
