Washington, July 16 /Xinhua/ — The U.S. State Department on Wednesday approved the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia totaling approximately $1.96 billion.
“This proposed sale will support the achievement of the United States’ foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a major non-NATO ally, which is a driving force of political stability and economic progress in the Persian Gulf region,” the press release says.
The main contractor will be BAE Systems, the department reported. The decision was made due to the increasing tension in relations between the Houthi forces in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
