Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — Six government agencies of China, including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of the People’s Republic of China, have jointly presented a plan aimed at strengthening comprehensive efforts to prevent and control solid waste pollution during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
According to the plan, by 2030 China intends to make significant progress in addressing the issue of solid waste pollution in key areas, effectively deal with waste accumulated over previous years, put an end to the widespread practice of illegal solid waste dumping, and substantially enhance its overall capacity in solid waste management.
The country also intends to create an integrated digital monitoring network covering all key areas by 2030 and build a group of “cities free from solid waste.”
The plan provides for coordinated efforts to address urgent issues and strengthen systemic management, focusing on identifying and eliminating environmental risks, and enhancing control at all stages of solid waste management.
The plan outlines target objectives for key areas concerning unauthorized dumping of solid waste, littering in karst caves, storage sites for phosphogypsum, solid household waste landfills, and sites for hazardous waste disposal.
In addition, the plan contains requirements for handling industrial and hazardous waste, discarded electrical or electronic devices, decommissioned equipment from new energy sources, as well as solid household waste and waste generated from construction and agricultural works. -0-
