Tbilisi, July 13 /Xinhua/ — One of the largest projects has begun in Georgia — the expansion and modernization of Tbilisi International Airport named after Shota Rustaveli. After the completion of the work, its annual passenger capacity will increase to 10 million. This was announced on Monday by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, at the project launch ceremony.
I. Kobakhidze emphasized that Tbilisi International Airport plays a key role in the country’s economic development, ensuring transport connectivity, promoting tourism, and attracting investments.
The head of government noted that in recent years, the passenger traffic in the country has significantly increased, the geography of international flights has expanded, and new airlines have entered the Georgian market. According to him, the record performance of the tourism sector also contributed to the growth of air transportation.
The project will be implemented in 2026-2028 and includes the expansion of the passenger terminal and airfield infrastructure, modernization of technological and operational systems, as well as further improvement of service quality in accordance with international standards. –0–
