Madrid, July 13 /Xinhua/ — The death toll from the forest fire in Almería province in southeastern Spain has risen to 13, and the fire is under control. This was announced on Sunday by the regional authorities.

According to official data, seven injured people remain in the hospital, three of them in serious condition. As reported by the RTVE television channel, many of the injured are foreign nationals. Ten people are still listed as missing.

The fire started on Thursday near the municipality of Los Gallardos. The fire burned about 7,000 hectares of land.

Regional authorities have stated that stabilizing the fire allowed them to reduce the level of emergency response and permit about 1,000 evacuees to return to their homes. On Saturday, approximately 600 people received such permission.

The investigation into the causes of the fire is ongoing. The main hypothesis is that the ignition might have occurred due to the collapse of a power line pole or a wire break.
