Manila, July 13 /Xinhua/ — The death toll from the combined impact of Typhoon “Bavi” and the intensified southwest monsoon has risen to 18, with another 12 reported missing. This was reported on Sunday by the Philippine Office of Civil Defense.
It is noted that most of the victims died as a result of landslides or drowned. The severe weather affected about 562,000 people across the country.
According to local media, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that Typhoon “Bavi” has intensified the southwest monsoon and will continue to cause heavy rains in several areas, increasing the risk of floods and landslides.
Authorities have deployed search and rescue teams and continue operations to eliminate the consequences of the disaster in the affected areas. The Philippine Coast Guard reported hundreds of passengers forced to remain in sea ports due to adverse weather conditions. –0–
